Stasi Buildings Gotlindestraße and Hans Zoschke Stadium

The MfS continued to expand after 1950. In 1975, the Gotlindestraße buildings were erected north of Hans Zoschke Stadium. The property contained a communication centre and six office buildings  including one for the Postal Inspection Division, where letters were secretly opened and sometimes copied. The 300-metre pathway next to the stadium connected the two worksites and was referred to internally as the “officers’ racecourse”. In the early 1970s, plans were in place to get rid of the stadium that was used by a civilian soccer club. The MfS wanted to build facilities for the staff sports regimen and firearms practice here.
