Seat of the GDR’s Foreign Espionage Unit (House 15)
In 1977/78, the MfS razed older buildings that had stood here on Müllerstraße, a street
that was later built over. They were replaced with a new office building for the MfS’
Main Administration A, which was responsible for the GDR’s foreign espionage.
The four concrete towers (House 15) also served to block off the Stasi grounds from
Frankfurter Allee.
House 16, built on Ruschestraße at the same time, provided office space for Main
Department XVIII, which oversaw the national economy. The building also contained
offices of the MfS-internal governing bodies of the SED state party and the FDJ, the
state-run youth organisation.
The buildings are now in private hands.
