Central Archive of the Stasi (House 8 | House 9)
In 1980, the MfS had several older structures on Magdalenenstraße demolished to make room for a new multi-section archive building, which Department XII (Central Information/Storage) moved into in 1984. Stasi employees working in Houses 8 and 9 recorded data on people it kept under surveillance or used as informants. They registered and archived documents and when requested, made the gathered information available to other MfS service units in the Stasi headquarters and throughout the GDR.
Today, the building serves as the Berlin location of the Stasi Records Archive in the Federal Archives.
