First Base of Operations of the State Security (House 2)
The finance office building, built in 1932, became the MfS’ first central base of operations in 1950. Nearly every service unit worked here in the early years. Later, the building was used mainly by Main Department II, in charge of counter intelligence. The Stasi added a storey and erected the south wing, creating a closed-off inner area. For access to the Service and Supply Wing (House 18), built across from House 2 in 1982, a connecting bridge was established that was removed in 2013.
Today, the building functions once again as a finance office.
