Stasi Headquarters Tour

Gotlindestraße Building Complex

Until 1990, these MfS service buildings on Gotlindestraße were part of the Stasi headquarters that spread out through the neighbourhood from 1950 onwards. In 1975, the MfS began building the complex in two stages: By 1979, three office buildings were completed along with a functional building for communications technology. From there, the Stasi organised its own modern network for electronic communications as well as the GDR government’s secret communication network. In 1985, construction of three 8-to-13-storey concrete tower blocks began on the adjoining Ruschestraße. Main Department Cadre and Training (HA KuSch), responsible for the MfS staff, worked here predominantly.

Today, the buildings are used by government agencies or have been converted into apartments.
