Officers’ Canteen and Conference Room (House 22)

In 1960, the MfS had House 22 built for representative purposes with a dining hall for the upper ranks. Its event hall on the upper floor was used for ceremonial functions, receptions, business conferences, and training courses. The ground-level canteen, which was reserved primarily for the minister, his deputies and high-ranking officers, was referred to internally as “commander’s hill”.

Today, House 22, which is now a landmarked building, contains the visitor centre of the “Stasi Headquarters. Campus for Democracy”, offering information on the site’s history as well as educational programs.
